literature HP The Atlas Consortium project

HP The Atlas Consortium

Client: The Atlas consortium is comprised of five partner organisations: HP, Fujitsu, General Dynamics, EADS Defence & Security Systems and Logica. The consortium was formed specially to deliver DII [Defence Information Infrastructure] - the largest IT system in Europe. Having achieved HP approved supplier status following a rigorous selection and approval process, bd2 has worked on a number of high profile and complex projects for the MoD through Atlas partner HP, working within their formal procurement and (strict approval processes.) Mentioned twice in same para?

Solution: The project covered the rationalisation of content, copywriting, design [content structure, format and graphics] and production of the Atlas pocketbook including the design of a bespoke polypropylene ring binder with clasp closure. The binder contains multiple sections with tabbed dividers and over 80 pages of content with text, images and diagrams. The Pocketbook provides all ATLAS employees assigned to the MOD account contract with a detailed and unique point of reference and clear understanding of the Consortium's aims in supporting the MOD's IT infrastructure. It acts as the bible for new employees who need to understand the account service goals, delivery expectations, relationship management and departmental hierarchy. We also managed the print production and logistics management, including desk drop delivery to multiple sites.

design for print

As new communications channels emerge and evolve, to compete alongside traditional methods for the attention of a target audience already saturated with messages, the role of the designer as communicator becomes ever more vital.

Design is a key strategic business tool which can help businesses communicate their messages to prospects, customers, employees and stakeholders. It is a tool which can inform, influence, motivate and sell when implemented effectively. As new communications channels emerge and evolve, to compete alongside traditional methods for the attention of a target audience already saturated with messages, the role of the designer as communicator becomes ever more vital.

Effective design is the key differentiator in getting noticed, in delivering information and in contributing to the creation and maintenance of the special relationship which all businesses need to establish with their customers and suppliers - one which goes beyond that of the pure business transaction.

And whilst the relentless advance of new digital communications have changed, and continue to change, the balance of marketing activity, there is undoubtedly still a place for print.

We believe about appropriateness - of selecting the appropriate channels for the target audience and the most appropriate vehicles to communicate the message.

Increasingly the focus is on integrated campaigns that use a combination of marketing communications channels within an overall 'joined up' approach - direct mail pieces that prompt the target audience to access a website, perhaps with e-vouchers for offers or discounts; prestigious corporate documents such as annual reports that need to deliver a statement on quality as well as content; or product or corporate brochures to leave with a prospect following a visit or request for information.

our approach

It is important to understand the design process in order to gain the most from it and, as with most things, thorough planning is vital to a successful outcome. A major building block in all successful projects is a clear and unambiguous brief which summarises what the client wants to achieve from the project. But before the brief is written, there are important questions to be considered: Why do you need design? Who are you designing for? What are your goals? How do you manage ideas and concepts? How do you make decisions? How will you make design a reality? How do you learn from the experience?

We work within our own proven, structured processes and will work with you to help answer these questions. Then to manage the complete design process, from concept origination and mock ups, through copywriting and imagery onto finished artwork and the entire production process.

If our approach makes sense and the case studies we've included appeal to you, we'd be delighted to show you more of our work and to discuss how we can assist with your project specifically - why not give us a call or complete the quick enquiry form below.
