Bullen Healthcare Hi-Slip Illustration project

Bullen Healthcare Hi-Slip

Client: Based in Liverpool, the Bullen Healthcare Group was established in 1858 and supply a complete range of ostomy products. They offer a home delivery service providing stoma products and prescription appliances to Ileostomists, Colostomists and Urostomists throughout the UK.

We designed and produced a series of User Guide documents for their Hi Slip catheters including the development of a clear and literal visual style suitable for medical purposes leading to 2 series of 18 illustrations with male and female versions. The project included the design and production of 2 x16 page documents including print management.

Illustration can offer more flexibility and style than photography bringing an ability to convey the conceptual as well as the literal. It can be used to build a strongly branded feel within campaigns and individual pieces of any media or format.

There is a long history of illustration in advertising going back to the art deco posters of Cassandre, the London Underground posters of the 30s and 40s and iconic posters by impressionist artist Toulouse-Lautrec. And the use of illustration has become ever more widespread across contemporary mainstream marketing and advertising campaigns with some great, recent and often adventurous examples from Honda, Lloyds TSB, BP and BUPA. These campaigns support a growing acceptance and use of illustration in both consumer and corporate communications and allow us, as designers and illustrators, to create images that can capture the conceptual or perhaps technical which is difficult or impossible with photography. Illustration can also be used to create strongly branded visual themes through style and colour.

Our work ranges from technical diagrams such as a guide to laying carpet for Milliken; medical illustrations for Bullen Healthcare's 'Hi Slip' range of catheters; technical diagrams and schemas for HP; and various style based illustrations for leaflets, Direct Mail, advertising, point of sale and invitations.

All our designers are also 'hands-on' illustrators experienced in both conventional and CAD illustration. We also work with a number of established freelance illustrators to commissioin illustrations of many varied styles.

We work within our own proven, structured processes to ensure that the commission meets your requirements taking your initial brief with consideration of any references, through to conceptual styles and drafts onto the finished piece or pieces. Typically our illustrations are used within our design projects where we will integrate and then project manage the entire process to publication.
